Tristan "T" Blus

As a kid I thought creativity was just not my thing.  Now I seek to embrace mathematics and logic as a strategy for creative expression.  I attempt to intertwine the unique weave of mathematical precision into systems of creation, fabricating a web of beauty that reveals nature and its perfect mathematics behind every turn.  I eschew the suggestion that logic and creativity are separate and seek to demonstrate that logic is creativity, and that creativity without logic is like a body without bones.  I seek to bridge the gap between nature and technology, and use the best logic of both to highlight our interconnectedness.

Through logic, I reveal form.  I reveal contrast, contradiction, focus. I shape the narrative through light, whether I'm lighting dance, theatrical drama, musical theatre, or simply an environment.  I grab the audience and pull them along on a journey into another world.  Logical knowledge of color reveals emotion, pulls at the heartstrings, and brings joy and levity.  Logical knowledge of angle reveals chronology, drama, good and evil, and sometimes just reality itself. My logic is my creative flow.

I seek to highlight unheard voices.  I have never actually known my race, being adopted at birth.  Much of the world, however, has made it clear to me that in their eyes I am not white. I don’t actually know my identity, but I choose to embrace, uplift, and celebrate underrepresented voices.  I use the modern technology which has often reinforced systems of oppression to strike back, dismantle disenfranchising narratives, and rejoice in the telling of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ stories. I bring inclusivity to my workplaces, embrace DEI practices, and seek to make working with me comfortable for all artists.

I am a computer scientist, networking specialist, lighting designer, technical director, scenic designer, scenic carpenter, theatrical technician, and generalized nerd.  I create and recreate the world around me through mathematics and logic.  I dig trenches across the line in the sand between logos and pathos, using logic to paint emotion on the stage. I am merely a conduit, using logic to transform raw emotion into a complex matrix of multilayered and nuanced story-telling which cannot be ignored.
